«La coalition Russie-Turquie-Iran n’existe pas»

LUC MICHEL’S GEOPOLITICAL DAILY

Jeudi 26 avril 2018

‘RUSSIA-TURKEY-IRAN COALITION DOES NOT EXIST’ (IBRAHIM KARAGÜL, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF AKP MOUTHPIECE ‘YENI SAFAK’)

“Russia-Turkey-Iran Coalition Does Not Exist (…) Turkey Should Build A Shield From The Mediterranean To The Iranian Border To Prepare For Upcoming New World Order War”
– Ibrahim Karagül (Editor-In-Chief of AKP Mouthpiece ‘Yeni Safak’, April 14. 2018).

“You cannot call this ‘pro-Russia sentiment’ or ‘pro-Eurasia sentiment.’ This is called being Turkish, being local. This is called balance”
– Hasan Öztürk (Editorial writer for AKP’s mouthpiece ‘Yeni Safak’, April 24. 2018).

« Being taught by the enemy is an honor and a duty »
– General Karl Hausofer (1869-1946), the geopolitician of the « Continental Blocks ».

The question of Turkey’s sincerity in its diplomatic action with Russia and Iran is central. I talk a lot about it. At the heart of this question is the future or the failure (which is for me from the outset an announced failure) of the « Astana process ». The Moscow-Tehran Axis is a solid geostrategic reality that is transformed into a sustainable geopolitical alliance (1). The Moscow-Ankara relationship is an illusion, the announced failure of which is based both on Turkey’s membership of NATO (on a Washington-Ankara axis, which is sometimes complex, but essential to the AKP’s grand project) and, precisely, Erdo?an’s great neo-Ottoman geopolitical project, which is coupled with the « Pantouranian » geopolitical theory (added to neo-Ottomanism because of the AKP-MHP political alliance.) The Neo-Ottoman Project and the Pantouran Geopolitics (which is not a « Turkish version of Eurasism » – sic – but its rival) opposed to the great Eurasian geopolitical design of Moscow (2), shared by Beijing and today Tehran …

Erdogan’s regime is an increasingly authoritarian regime. Authoritarianism necessitated by the political and social turn that the « new Sultan » intends to impose on his country: to turn his back on almost a century of reform and modernization of Turkey by Kemalism and re-Islamization. Knowing that at least half of the population is opposed to this reactionary turn. But this authoritarian regime is not the work of a man, Erdogan, but of a party, the AKP. Supported by a powerful network of Islamist brotherhoods (the AKP is the Turkish version of the ‘Muslim Brotherhood’). And on a close alliance with a neo-fascist party, the MHP, « Pan-Turkist » (the legal showcase of the ultra-nationalist « Gray Wolves », an essential element of the control of the Turkish diaspora by the AKP) (3).

Understand then that Erdogan must rely on a more radical faction than him in the AKP. And that it has little sympathy for Russia or Eurasianism, but especially a pan-Turkish agenda in Syria. Panturkist MHP is strongly anti-russian! (4) must read these influential leaders of the AKP, powerful enough to openly criticize Erdogan in the body of his party: these radical words show all the illusions of the « geopolitics of emotion » of some Russian journalists!

# WHEN THE AKP OFFICIAL MOUTHPIECE ‘YENI SAFAK’ ATTACKS THE ERDOGAN POLICY TO MOSCOW

Ibrahim Karagül, influent Editor-In-Chief Of AKP Mouthpiece ‘Yeni Safak’: “Russia-Turkey-Iran Coalition Does Not Exist; Turkey Should Build A ‘Shield From The Mediterranean To The Iranian Border’ To Prepare For Upcoming New World Order War.”

‘Yeni Safak’, the mouthpiece for Turkey’s ruling Adalet ve Kalkimna Partisi (Justice and Development Party, the Turkish version of the ‘Muslims Brothers’) has been in the forefront of a media campaign against AKP’s own leader, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, criticizing his policies in Syria and his government’s support for the U.S.-Great Britain- France airstrike in Syria (5). On April 14, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that the operation carried out by Washington, London and Paris was « an appropriate response to the chemical attack which caused the deaths of many civilians in Douma on 7 April. » The Ministry then added: « We welcome this operation which has eased humanity’s conscience in the face of the attack in Douma, largely suspected to have been carried out by the regime. » Commenting on the statement, Yeni Safak Editor-in-Chief ?brahim Karagül attacked Ankara’s position, stating that the government’s decision will lead to severed relations with Russia, and leave Ankara « helpless. » In his tweets, Karagül stressed that “continued Turkish collaboration with Moscow, formed a prerequisite for Turkey’s military operation against the Kurdish PKK movement.”

In a lengthy editorial, titled « This Is No Longer A Syria War! Preparation Is For ‘Doomsday War.’ The World’s Equilibrium May Change, » Ibrahim Karagül elaborated further that if “Turkey will become a weak player, there will be no one stopping Iran from its hegemonic plans”. Karagül wrote: « (Iran) is only concerned about map efforts, moves to expand to the Mediterranean coasts, and clearing the path to greater massacres to form a bigger area of action for itself. It is only concerned about reaching the Mediterranean coasts just as it reached Yemen; it cares only about its imperial ambitions. »

In his article, Ibrahim Karagül strongly insinuated that “Erdogan is not fighting for Turkey’s interests”. The Yeni Safak Editor-in-Chief considers “all of Erdogan’s policies contradictory and erroneous.” He opined that “the Turkish government erred in backing the U.S. on the strike”, but Karagul also considers “Ankara’s formation of an alliance with Iran– a country which he described as a foe – via the Astana process, a blunder.” It is worth noting that on April 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met in Ankara, in the framework of the Astana process. On that occasion, Erdogan frequently referred to Rouhani as « my brother. »

In his editorial, Karagül also described “the geopolitical challenges facing Turkey, as Syria is doomed to become a battlefield in the real war between East and West, a war that will sound the death knell for the West’s centuries-long global dominance.” Accordingly, Karagul advocates “quick action by Turkey in Afrin” to form a ‘Turkey shield’ stretching from the Mediterranean to the Iranian border.” He warned that “If Turkey failed to act in this direction, it could risk seeing the Syria war turn into an Anatolia war » over Turkey’s heartland.

BUT KARAGÜL IS FAR FROM ISOLATED!
« YOU CANNOT CALL THIS ‘PRO-RUSSIA SENTIMENT’ OR ‘PRO-EURASIA SENTIMENT’.”
(AKP’S MOUTHPIECE ‘YENI SAFAK’, APRIL 24. 2018)

Hasan Öztürk, the editorial writer for the ruling AKP’s mouthpiece ‘Yeni Safak’ wrote also an anti-iranian and anti-Syrian article, titled « You cannot call this ‘pro-Russia sentiment’ or ‘pro-Eurasia sentiment.’ This is called being Turkish, being local. This is called balance, » (6) discussing Ankara’s relations with the West and with Russia. The Turkish editorialist opined that Ankara’s statement supporting Westen hits against Syria “created disappointment in Moscow.” But, “ »What we have been saying from the very beginning is: Assad is a killer. Assad is a tyrant. Russia, which Assad called to Syria, has spilled at least as much blood as Assad and caused as much pain as Assad. Just like Iran. Just like the Iran-backed Hezbollah.”

ATTACKS ON ERDOGAN’S POLICIES ALSO APPEARED IN THE RUSSIAN MEDIA

In Russia itself, many analysts criticize the pro-Turkish illusions of Moscow. The pro-Turkish feeling is the fact of pro-Erdogan’s affluence networks, linked to supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. And every day more minority. The « geopolitics of emotion » is a bankruptcy and Ankara’s approval of the Western strikes of April 14 is the nail that seals the coffin of this one! It will be noted that criticism of illusions about Turkey has reached the Russian state press (Sputnik Armenia). But also the disillusionment of the leader of « Rightist Eurasism », Douguine. Evoking the failure of the ghostly « Eurasian Axis » (Russian-Turkish). Rightist Eurasism, cluttered with a cultural, religious and esoteric ideological jumble, is precisely the one who has mistakenly assimilated, in the contempt of history, « pantouranism » (or « pan-Turkism ») to a « Turkish Eurasism ». …

So attacks on Erdogan’s policies also appeared in the Russian media. Russian ‘Sputnik Armenia’ journalist Arman Vanaeskegian opined that Erdogan is the biggest loser of the strikes in Syria. Vanaeskegian stated (7): « The biggest loser may be Turkey that for the umpteenth time defected to the rival side. It is unknown what they personally promised Erdogan in the West, however in the most crucial moment he betrayed and sold out, hoping for major war in the region in which he would have the chance not only to get stronger in Afrin but to progress further in Syrian Manbij and Iraqi Sinjar. Erdogan hoped greatly that Russia and America would clash head-on in Syria. »

Russian philosopher Dugin also criticized Ankara’s position. « Now Erdogan has hesitated once again. Turkey has once again called for Assad’s overthrow. However, Moscow believes that not everything is lost, and Putin is likely to try to establish closer contact with Erdogan to restore the Eurasian axis. In any case, Erdogan’s backwards step towards Atlanticism increases the threat of a new coup in Turkey. If he wavers, they will take him down, since the Atlanticists will never forgive his recent flirting with Russia. Erdogan has lost the trust of all sides. Since Russia allowed the Turks to take Afrin, Erdogan’s behavior can be considered a gross ingratitude akin to the downed plane, » Dugin wrote, referring to the AKP’s internal divisions on the Syrian crisis.

“RUSSIA-TURKEY-IRAN COALITION DOES NOT EXIST”
(IBRAHIM KARAGÜL,
AKP MOUTHPIECE ‘YENI SAFAK’, APRIL 14, 2018)

Below are other anti-iranian propaganda excerpts from Karagül’s editorial:

“(Iran) is only concerned about… moves to expand to the Mediterranean coastsjust as it reached Yemen …
« There is no longer a Syria war. There is no longer a fight in which the Syrians are a side, which can be outlined with the future of the Syrian people and nation. There is nobody other than Turkey who cares about Syrians, Syria’s integrity or existence anyway. There is nobody making sacrifices or showing loyalty to assist the Syrian people, to support them, to share their pain, or to help them return to normalcy either. No country other than Turkey cares in a ‘humanitarian’ manner, nobody comprehends the notion of the oppressed, and nobody is mourning those massacres.
« There is no such issue for Iran. It is only concerned about map efforts, moves to expand to the Mediterranean coasts, and clearing the path to greater massacres to form a bigger area of action for itself. It is only concerned about reaching the Mediterranean coasts just as it reached Yemen; it cares only about its imperial ambitions. The massacres it is responsible for in Aleppo, its attacks based on its sectarian identity and opportunistic outbursts are like a ruthless history book.
Saudi Arabia And The UAE Have Been Acting As ‘The Western Occupation’s Leading Forces’
« As for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and some Arab countries, they couldn’t care less if all of Syria is destroyed. They have been acting as the Western occupation’s leading forces for the last three decades. Through this role, they destroyed Iraq, Syria and Libya. They are the leaders of regional occupation, and the forces and countries who call the foreign troops to these lands.

(3) The Gray Wolves (Bozkurtlar in Turkish) s an ultra-nationalist Turkish armed organization1. The movement is described as neo-fascist, anti-communist, anti-Greek, anti-Kurdish, anti-Armenian, homophobic and anti-Semitic. He has very close relations with the Nationalist Action Party (MHP), which he describes as his paramilitary branch.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will have done everything to win their favor: raise the tone against Europe, toughen the repression of pro-Kurdish circles and revive the debate on the death penalty. The ultra-nationalists of the MHP – the Nationalist Action Party – have been at the center of attention ever since Erdogan joined with them to implement a constitutional revision that significantly strengthened his powers, a text submitted to referendum, which the MHP helped win.
The rapprochement between Erdogan and Bahçeli may surprise. The two men, who share a virile political style, have exchanged very hard words in the past. Erdogan, who now compliments his old enemy, made a symbolic gesture by visiting the grave of MHP founder Alparslan Türkes to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death.
Going even further, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has carried out the hand of the Gray Wolves, an ultra-nationalist faction associated in the past with numerous political assassinations targeting Kurdish or leftist militants. The challenge for Erdogan is to « convince the fascist nationalists that he is the first of the Gray Wolves ». The way forward is tight for Mr Erdogan, who must give a guarantee to this electorate without totally alienating the Kurdish conservatives, a non-negligible fringe of those who traditionally vote for the AKP.

(4) On November 24, 2015, a Turkish fighter shot the Russian bomber Su-24: the same day, a video interview of Syrian Turkmens shooting one of the pilots, parachute and defenseless, was widely broadcast on the internet. Their leader was quickly identified: Alparslan Celik, son of an official of the Nationalist Action Party MHP and active member of his youth army branch, the « Gray Wolves ».
The Gray Wolves appeared in the late 1960s when the National Action Party and its leader, the notorious Fascist Colonel Alparslan Türkes, needed a youth wing – the Turkish analogue of the Hitler Youths, so to speak. The organization was named « Gray Wolves ».
